Texas Representative Introduces Bill to Feature Donald Trump on $100 Bill

Republican Representative Brandon Gill from Texas has recently proposed a bill that would place President Donald Trump’s likeness on the $100 bill, replacing Benjamin Franklin.

The proposed legislation, titled the “Golden Age Act of 2025,” is a reference to Trump’s claim that his administration helped usher in what he described as a “Golden Age of America.”

If passed, the bill would require that all future $100 bills feature Trump’s portrait. The legislation is co-sponsored by fellow Republican Representative Troy Nehls, also from Texas.

In a statement, Gill explained why he introduced the bill: “There has been no one who has done more to bring America into the golden age than President Trump. Featuring him on the $100 bill is a small way to honor all he will accomplish in the next four years.”

Gill also shared a photo on social media of a mock-up showing Trump’s portrait on the $100 bill.

If the bill were to pass, the Treasury Secretary would need to present a design for the new $100 bill by December 31, 2026. After December 31, 2028, all $100 bills would need to feature Trump’s likeness.

However, there are existing laws that prohibit living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency, making the passage of this bill unlikely.

Despite these obstacles, Gill and Nehls have continued to push the proposal, with Gill emphasizing Trump’s contributions during his presidency, particularly in areas like border security, trade, and energy independence.

Another Republican Representative, Joe Wilson of South Carolina, has also expressed support for the idea. He is preparing a separate proposal for a $250 bill featuring Trump’s likeness.

The proposal to place Trump on the $100 bill has drawn both praise and criticism. Supporters argue that it would honor Trump’s contributions to the country, while critics point out the longstanding tradition of featuring figures like Benjamin Franklin on U.S. currency.

The last major redesign of U.S. currency occurred in 1929, when former President Andrew Jackson replaced Grover Cleveland on the $20 bill. Benjamin Franklin has been featured on the $100 bill since 1914.

This is not the first time that members of Congress have proposed changes to U.S. currency. In 2016, there were discussions about replacing Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, though the proposal was delayed during Trump’s presidency.

As the debate continues, some Republican members of Congress have also introduced bills that aim to honor Trump in other ways, such as by placing his likeness on Mount Rushmore or making his birthday a federal holiday.

While these proposals continue to stir debate, it’s clear that the issue of who should be featured on U.S. currency remains a topic of discussion in American politics.
